The tea-group: a fresh ministry serving the elderly out of St. David's, Edmonton

It seems that all parishes everywhere cry out for more youth ministry, believing that if only they can get the young people in, they'll be alright. However, many parishes and ministers forget that there is still need among the elders of our communities, and that reaching out to those elders in creative ways can bring comfort and hope into the lives of many of our elderly, and those who support them. The Rev. Cameron Burns, and the people of St. David's Anglican Church, Edmonton, have not forgotten the elderly, and have expressed their care for them in a fresh take on the church-basement tea. Happy Feast of St. Barnabas, all.
Today is Barnabas' patronal day, and I suppose, a sort of birthday for all ministries bearing the name of the "Son of encouragement". Barnabas got his nick-name because all who knew him found him a special, and insightful man who could encourage and strengthen those around.
Let that be our own mission for the day. Encouragement and support in the mission of God.

(I can't turn off the read more link, but there is no more to read. Cheers,t)
(Oh, and special thanks to L. W. for pointing out the date to me!) Write Comment (0 comments) |
